| Mattydale, New York (March 24, 2001) - For the third straight
year, a Southern Tier Junior Bassmaster won the New York State CastingKids title. This year, our very own April Elliott went to the state finals and came away a winner with a total score of 110 pts. out of a possible 150 pts. April competed in the 7-10 age group against other local winners from across the state. After watching five other kids flip, pitch and cast to a 5-way tie with a score of 80 pts., April stepped up to the line and took home the state championship. April is the secretary of the Junior chapter of Southern Tier Bassmaster, and is a regular participant on the bass boat trail, as well as the shoreline trail. She is no stranger when it comes to handling a fishing pole. April will now be traveling to Mobile, Alabama, with her parents, to compete in the national semi-finals. This event will be held during the 2001 B.A.S.S. Federation Championships, April , 26-28, 2001, and will have all the winners from other state finals across the U.S. competing for the five slots, in each age group, to go to the national finals. The national event is held during the Bassmasters Classic in New Orleans on, August 2-4, 2001. $21,000 in scholarship money will be awarded to the winners. Local competitions are held across the country. Check with your local area bass club for the times and dates of their next competition. Entries are open to all kids from ages 7-14, and there is never a entry fee. For more information on the CastingKids program, go to: |
