1998 Youth Leadership Camp

Fishkill, New York - Hudson Valley Bassmasters hosted the 3rd annual "Youth Leadership Training Camp", November 6-8, 1998 on the "Sharpe Reservation".

The reservation, a privately owned estate, is nestled in the beautiful hills of the Hudson Valley, and was a perfect place for leaders of junior bassmaster clubs to get together for the camp.

The camp runs from Friday evening to about midday on Sunday. Taught by Wayne Tomassi, youth leader for the Hudson Valley Bassmasters, it is an intense training program. The program teaches the T.L.C. (touch, look, and communicate) principle. The young bassmaster leaders are introduced to speaking in front of an audience using T.L.C. By the time the camp concludes, on Sunday, they are quite fluent in their prepared presentations. A variety of skills are taught. These include setting goals, action plans to achieve those goals, budgeting and presentation.
Two members of the Southern Tier Junior Bassmasters attended this year's camp. President, Chris Barth and Secretary, Bobby Elliott, made the 315 mile, 6-hour journey to Sharpe Reservation.

The trip was well worth the effort, for both boys. When asked about their feelings, concerning their weekend trip, they both agreed that it was a great experience and they would do it again, without hesitation.

The program also had enough time for some well-deserved "F&R" (Fun & Relaxation). As luck would have it, even the bass were cooporating!
Our heart-felt "Thanks" goes out to Wayne Tomassi and the Hudson Valley Bassmasters for hosting this excellent program and inviting the youth leaders from across New York. The implications of this program will carry our youth far beyond their fishing careers. It will follow them for life! -Thank You
