Elliott and Marino
win on Silver Lake

The Southern Tier Bassmasters held their annual October open, normally held on Honeoye Lake, instead on Silver Lake Saturday October 2, 2011, sponsored by Molye Chevrolet & Buick, because of work being done on the Honeoye ramps.

The weather????? Well let’s just say that the only good thing was that it didn’t snow. Wind, rain and the desire to get out of it was primary on the minds of at least 6 of the 18 teams as they headed out well before the 3 pm weigh-in time. Understandably so, with a temperature in the high 40’s and a 20 mph north wind, the fishing was not only uncomfortable but equally tough as only 2 of the remaining 12 teams brought a limit to the scales.

Topping the field was the team of Bob Elliott and Andy Marino with a 5 fish limit weighing 17.31 pounds for the win and $326.70. In second place was the team of Noel Good and Brad Ashcraft with 14.41 pounds in only 4 fish. They split $188.10. With the only other 5 fish limit Joe Abt and Norm Ahrens took third place and $108.90 with 13.36 pound. Rounding out the top 4 was the father/son team of Kevin and Nick Kuhn with a weight of 9.67 pounds in 3 fish. They took home $69.30.

Lunker for the tournament was a 5.88 pound largemouth caught by the team of Rich Johnson and Mark Allen. Rumor has it that the fish heard that there was a “heated” livewell in the boat. That one bite was worth $99.

Thanks to all who came out, braved the weather and supported the tournament. The last Southern Tier Open will be held on Conesus Lake Saturday October 15, 2011, sponsored by Good Drywall & Construction.
