September 2009

The regular monthly meeting was held on September 10, 2009, at Perkins Family Restaurant in Olean, NY.

Tournament News

The last club points tournament will take place on Sodus Bay on September 19. Members are reminded that all entry forms must be received by 5:00 PM on the Tuesday prior to the tournament, September 15. Entry forms are available on our website.

Also, remember that all tournaments after September 1 will start at 7:00 AM and run until 3:00 PM due to the limited morning light.

We have two open team tournaments remaining on our 2009 schedule: Honeoye on October 3 and Conesus two weeks later on October 17. These lakes can be a lot of fun in October so grab a partner and give it a try.

Junior Club News

The juniors’ NY State Six-Man Team for 2009, Logan Schuh, Clinton Brewer, Kylene Estes, Mike Dupere, Tyler McClurg and Clayton Schuh fished on Onondaga Lake on July 18 and took a respectable third place.

The juniors will hold an open team tourney on Cuba Lake from 3-7 PM on September 26. The entry fee is $20 per team and $5 for the lunker pot - teams can register right at the launch. The juniors want to emphasize that the tourney is open to adults and encourages participation for this fund raiser.

The juniors will participate in the Olean Sportsman’s Show on September 12 and 13. They will be running a Casting Kids lane and a few seniors members will give demos. Also, they will raffle a real nice Matthews bow, donated by Whitetail Country Store.

Spencer Steps Down, Melick Fills In

After two years of yeoman’s duty as STBM tournament director, Tom Spencer has stepped down due to work constraints. Tom did a great job; the club certainly recognizes his efforts and thanks him. Bill Melick has come forward to serve as the 2010 season tournament director. Let’s all be sure to give him our support.

Miscellaneous Items

Don’t forget to mark your calendar for the annual banquet on February 6 at the Old Library in Olean. Committee chair, Don Hallock, is working with the Library staff putting together this year’s menu.

Other News
Nominations for 2010 Officers

Vice-president Ted Barth reminded members that 2010 club officer nominations will take place at our November meeting. He urged members to consider running for an office. Those thinking of running for office need not worry as there are plenty of “veteran” officers available to help and support you if you decide to take on an office.

Club Function Requirement

Members are reminded that they are required to participate in five club functions per year. A function is a club meeting, points/open/Classic tournament, annual banquet or helping out at a junior event. There are two more meetings and three tournaments left for members to pick up a function, so be sure to meet your club obligation.

Members wishing to know how many functions they have should contact secretary, Dominic DiGirolamo or vice-president, Ted Barth. Don’t get caught short because failure to make the five functions will require the member to sit out for one year. Further, he must hope that the club has not reached its membership cap which would exclude him even longer. Check now!

The next meeting will be held at the Olean Perkins Family Restaurant on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at 7 PM.
